PVC-UH Water Supply Pipe Trench Excavation Standards and Backfill Soil Quality
1. Trench excavation should adhere strictly to established standards.
To prevent pipeline placement in permafrost, the trench depth must be determined by local data. Proper backfill is crucial to ensure that pipelines and interfaces remain intact by avoiding cracks from bending stress. Ensure the backfill allows for effective tamping and operation:
(1) Trench alignment should be straight. The trench's bottom width should exceed the pipe's outer diameter by at least 0.5m, with an overall width no less than 0.7m.
(2) Carefully regulate the trench's depth-neither too deep nor too shallow. If gravel is too deep, backfill and compact to the desired depth. Encountering hard soil or obstacles like stones may lead to trench curvature, insufficient depth, and increased construction complexity. This could cause pipes and fittings to bend under stress, risking joint leakage or rupture with rising water supply and pressure.
2. Safeguard against permafrost foundation and pipe trench settlement. During winter, ensure the trench bottom aligns with undisturbed soil, or is dense post-backfilling. High soil moisture and non-dense foundations can cause future thawing, leading to sinkage, pipe bending, joint breakage, added stress, potential joint leaks, or pipe ruptures.
3. Adhere to regulations during winter pipeline bonding.
PVC-UH tube adhesive is solvent-based, designed to expand or dissolve surfaces for strong bonding. Apply adhesive to the socket's inner and outer surfaces; upon insertion, extrusion pressure unites the surfaces. Solvent evaporation hardens the surface without compromising substrate strength, ensuring pressure resistance.
Optimal adhesive quantity is crucial-neither insufficient for sealing and strength nor excessive to avoid corrosion and softening, which could lead to cracks under water pressure. Low temperatures slow solvent evaporation, increasing the risk of deeper penetration and strength reduction.
Thus, bonding pipes must follow specifications meticulously. The adhesive should slightly overflow at the interface, to be wiped clean. Apply glue from the socket's interior outward to prevent flow onto pipe walls.
4. Accommodate pipe thermal expansion and contraction.
The thermal expansion coefficient for PVC-UH pipes is 0.07mm/m·ºC, higher than traditional pipes. Be mindful of temperature-induced longitudinal deformation, especially in surface water-sourced delivery systems.

1. Begin installation with a thorough inspection of the quality of pipes, fittings, and rubber rings. Meticulously clean the working surface of both the socket and the corresponding end to ensure a flawless connection.
2. During pipe installation, orient the socket to naturally face the direction of incoming water, ensuring an efficient flow.
3. Generously apply lubricant to both the rubber ring and the insertion segment. Use an appropriate amount to prevent the lubricant from seeping into the socket groove. This minimizes friction between the rubber ring and the socket wall, preventing any potential overturn of the rubber ring. Common lubricants include detergent or soapy water, offering smooth installation.
4. Precisely align the socket ports, maintaining a straight pipeline axis for optimal function and integrity.
5. Securely place suitable wire rope sleeves on both sides of the socket, utilizing a tightener or hand wrench to pull them into the reticle. For medium-caliber pipes, use square wood to pad the port, gently tapping it into the socket with a mallet for a secure fit.
